The following scenarios illustrate the operational behaviour of the Epictetus Safety Engine within defined hazard environments.

Each sequence shows full state progression from SAFE through escalation and back to SAFE once resolution criteria are satisfied.

Driveway Safety

A child enters a defined driveway hazard zone while a vehicle is present.

The system evaluates presence, motion state and zone position.
Escalation occurs when vehicle motion intersects with unresolved child risk.
State continuity is maintained during temporary occlusion.

SAFE is restored only once the child exits the hazard zone and motion conditions resolve.

Swimming Pool Safety

Pools require clearly defined risk boundaries.

Epictetus applies nested hazard zones to evaluate child presence and supervision context. Risk escalates as conditions change and resolves only when safety is confirmed.

External Hazard Zones

Transitional hazard areas can be defined beyond primary zones, such as driveway exits or boundary gates.

Risk escalates when vulnerable presence intersects with external motion conditions.

Alerts and Intervention

When escalation thresholds are met, the system generates real-time alerts to designated monitoring endpoints.

Alert behaviour follows defined policy rules, including immediate notification, escalation tiers and persistence until resolution.

Intervention remains human. The system is designed to surface risk early so action can occur before harm.
